We're the Monge Barrera Family!

Hi!  Welcome to our site.

We are a family of 6 currently living in a small town in central Canada. 

We are a Christian (non-denominational), homeschooling family eager to serve the Lord however He leads. Though following Him has had no shortage of uncertainties, we're choosing to continue following, trusting that His plan is always the best plan.

This journey all started with dreams. After dreaming (countlessly) that our family would move to Italy, we decided to start seriously considering what that might look like in actuality.  After much prayer and consideration, we decided it was time to bring those dreams to reality and move our family to the beautiful country of Italy.  

Not knowing how this would look, we attended Winnipeg's MissionFest in the winter of 2018 to see if there was some sort of answer to our quest - and there was!

We met an agency called Greater Europe Mission (GEM) whose focus is to make disciples in Europe, who would then go on to make more disciples. Their focus is on building relationships and walking alongside those in the community.  

This was right up our alley! We loved what they were doing and wanted to be a part of it, so we applied, and a few months later, were appointed to serve alongside them in Europe.

Here's where the journey took an unexpected turn... In the five or so years since being appointed, our hopes of serving in Italy has dampened; Leanne had unexpected, long-term health issues, a global pandemic took place, our family grew, and we ran out of potential supporters to help send us. The excitement and urgency to serve in Italy that we once felt, shifted into a feeling of needing to serve within our own community.

Had we missed the boat? Or has it not yet come into dock?

It's all part of the mysterious journey!

We are, however, still actively involved with the mission organization. Leanne now serves as a writer for GEM Canada, writing blog posts and newsletters, spreading the stories of how God is moving through Europe through missionaries and ministries.
